All Last Stop Endings — Fred's Two Finales

Last Stop has two main endings, and both are tied to Fred — the final boss waiting at the last stop of the 95,000m journey. You can put him down in a fight, or cure him and end the ride without killing him. Each route awards its own badge, and Nightmare Mode layers a permanent-night challenge on top of the whole journey.

Updated 2026-09-12

Ending 1 — Defeat Fred

The combat ending. When the bus reaches the Last Stop, you fight Fred directly and win. There's no puzzle here — just the accumulated result of your whole run: best weapons, full ammo, stocked healing, and ideally a sustain class (Ghoul or Vampire) that can outlast a long fight.

Badge: Defeat Fred Ending. As of the 2026-09-12 badge sync this is by far the more common ending — 11× as many players hold the Defeat badge as the Cure badge.

Ending 2 — Cure Fred

The alternate, kinder finale. Instead of killing Fred, you get a cure potion to him and use it, ending the ride with Fred alive. The cure is a collection route: treat it as a checklist you work through across the journey's checkpoints rather than a single item grab at the end.

Badge: Cure Fred Ending — 1,994 awards at the 2026-09-12 badge sync, versus 21,527 for the defeat route. It's the rarer of the two by an order of magnitude.

The cure route, step by step

The potion can't be bought — it surfaces as rare loot, and the community consensus is that it appears most reliably in late-game scavenge stops, above all the Hospital and the Military Base. The Hospital is a mid-difficulty (3/5) stop with healing-focused loot, which makes it the natural anchor for a cure attempt.

Confirmation status: the potion-plus-alive-Fred mechanics are confirmed by the in-game badge descriptions; the Hospital and Military Base loot bias is community-reported and consistent across the sources we cross-check — strong consensus, not developer word. The Case Closed badge (keep Detective Jack Hollow alive until he finds Fred) and the Break Into Hospital badge (solve the Doctor's incomplete code) tie into the same story layer — hospital-style locations are exactly the kind of place cure components hide. If you're badge hunting anyway, run your cure route as a full story pass.

  • Commit in Phase 1. Decide before the run starts that this is a cure run — you'll want inventory space and cash ready when the potion finally surfaces.
  • Inspect before you sell. Rare loot is easy to dump as 'junk' — use Y (Inspect) on anything before selling it.
  • Preserve it. Once found, the potion rides with you to the Last Stop — don't sell it and don't risk it on reckless stops.
  • Keep Fred alive. The Cure route requires Fred alive at the final stop — at the last fight, the two routes are mutually exclusive.
  • Squads: call the kill. A teammate finishing Fred off ruins the attempt — agree in advance that nobody attacks, and everyone protects the potion holder.

Which ending should you go for?

First run: Defeat Fred. It's the ending your natural build pushes toward, and losing the final fight to chase the cure potion you didn't track is the classic first-run heartbreak. Second run onward: do the Cure route properly — it's the more satisfying completion and the rarer badge.

Whichever route you pick, the journey rules don't change: fuel, food, ammo, and discipline get you to the Last Stop. The ending is just the last ten minutes.

Nightmare Mode — the bonus challenge

Nightmare Mode (added September 8, 2026 with the 'NIGHTMARE + MORE!' update) replays the journey in permanent night. The badge description says it best: 'Nightmare mode is really scary at night, but the problem is that it's always night in Nightmare mode.' Permanent darkness means permanent siege rules: every stretch is a night run, so lifesteal and sustain classes jump in value and every logistics mistake doubles in cost.

Badge: Finish Nightmare Mode. As of the 2026-09-12 badge sync it still shows zero recorded awards — the rarest badge in the game. Whoever gets the world's first completions will own a piece of Last Stop history.
